GOAL - PSG 2-0 Bayern MunichOusmane DembeleAchraf Hakimi was not even thinking about taking it to the corner flag with 9 men on the pitch. Carlos Rodon's miserable Yankees outing only made matters worse in nightmarish day

Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free On yet another day when the Yankees offered a reminder that it can always get worse, Carlos Rodón took a turn doing his part. There was plenty of bad around him, from the pregame news that Clarke Schmidt is headed for Tommy John surgery to more sloppy defense behind him and even some friendly fire that bloodied Aaron Judge. But Rodón did little to help plug the hole of water gushing out of the sinking ship that is the Yankees. The left-hander turned in arguably his worst start of the season and put the Yankees in an immediate four-run hole on the way to a sixth straight loss, 12-6 to the Mets on Saturday at Citi Field. 3 Carlos Rodón reacts during the Yankees' 12-6 loss to the Mets on July 5, 2025. Robert Sabo for NY Post '[I had] a lot of misses today, and they punished them,' Rodón said. 'Obviously, we fell short again, and the performance by me was very subpar, so [I] didn't put us in position to win.' Rodón was tagged for seven runs (six earned) across five innings, most of the damage coming on Brandon Nimmo's grand slam (on a 1-2 count) in the first inning and Pete Alonso's two-run homer in the fifth. The Yankees came into the game holding the clear-cut pitching advantage — Rodón facing ex-Yankee Frankie Montas — and yet they took another loss, their 16th in the past 22 games. 'I should have been better at my craft, but today, I just wasn't good enough,' Rodón said. 3 Carlos Rodón pitches during the Yankees-Mets game on July 5, 2025. Robert Sabo for NY Post The Yankees are expected to address third base by the July 31 trade deadline. For now, they took a flier on a struggling veteran. The club signed third baseman Jeimer Candelario to a minor league deal on Saturday and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where the 31-year-old switch-hitter will try to prove he has something left. Candelario hit just .113 (9-for-80) with a .410 OPS in 22 games with the Reds before landing on the injured list with a lower back injury, and then when he got healthy, he was designated for assignment. In doing so, the Reds ate the nearly $23 million left on Candelario's contract, with president of baseball operations Nick Krall describing it as a 'sunk cost.' Acquiring a third baseman would allow the Yankees to move Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base, where he is better defensively. He made his third error in four games Saturday, throwing high to first base on a ground ball in the second inning that led to a run. Austin Wells got hit on the top of his catcher's mask by a foul tip in the third inning. Home plate umpire Laz Diaz quickly called for the Yankees trainer, but after Wells underwent some precautionary tests, he remained in the game. CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND YANKEES STATS 'It's just part of the position,' said Wells, who homered in the top of the inning. 'I think Laz was being nice and giving me some time.' For the first time this season, Cody Bellinger started at first base, with Paul Goldschmidt on the bench and Ben Rice at DH. Yerry De Los Santos (right elbow discomfort) threw his first bullpen session Saturday since landing on the injured list. The reliever, who had pitched to a 1.80 ERA across 14 games and 20 innings before getting hurt, would be an important arm for the Yankees to get back at a time when their bullpen has been overworked and not pitching well.

Live Aid's forgotten stars from Noel Edmonds to Jack Nicholson

Live Aid is celebrating its 40th anniversary. On Saturday, 13 July 1985 Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure organised a charity concert with the aim of helping to end famine around the world. Some of the world's most famous musicians signed up to perform at Wembley Stadium in London - from Beatle Paul McCartney and David Bowie, to George Michael and Sir Elton John. Anyone who was lucky enough to be there will remember it as an electrifying moment in pop history, and just hearing the phrase Live Aid summons iconic images of Freddie Mercury entertaining the crowd with his extravagant dance moves, and The Who bringing down the house with their timeless hit My Generation. And for those not lucky enough to be in the audience, Live Aid was broadcast live on the BBC, with viewers encouraged to call in and donate money toward the fight against global poverty. The BBC has made a new documentary, Live Aid: When Rock 'n' Roll Took On the World, looking back at the celebrated musical event, 40 years on. Give us your f***ing money!Bob Geldof Like many, you probably can recall Mercury's dance moves, Bowie's stylish grey suit, Elton John and Kiki Dee's duet and Geldof famously shouting to the crowds "Give us your f***ing money!" But there were some famous faces at Live Aid who may have slipped your mind. So let us jog your memory. These days, former Deal Or No Deal host Noel Edmonds is busy making a new life for himself in New Zealand. But back on the day of Live Aid 1985, the Top Of The Pops and Noel's House Party presenter appeared on stage to introduce rock stars Sting and Phil Collins duetting together. Sting performed his hits Roxanne and Message In A Bottle, while Collins Against All Odds and In The Air Tonight. Then the pair dueted for two songs, finishing with Every Breath You Take. Princess Diana was a big fan of Wham! and later went on to become friends with George Michael as well as Live Aid performer Elton John. The Princess of Wales and King Charles were both invited to represent the Royal Family at the special British event. They were sitting in the VIP box in front of David Bowie, Roger Taylor and Brian May. Paula Yates, Bob Geldof's wife, once revealed she stopped at a petrol station on the way to Wembley to buy flowers to present to the princess. Movie star Jack Nicholson made a surprise appearance at Live Aid. The star of The Shining and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was at the US Live Aid concert, which took place on the same day in Philadelphia. Nicholson appeared by video link at the Wembley concert to introduce U2 and The Who to the stage. Comedian Billy Connolly was among the original Live Aid line-up. The Scottish comedian entertained the crowd before introducing Elton John's set. Elton John wowed the crowds with hits I'm Still Standing, Bennie and the Jets and Rocket Man, before he was accompanied by Kiki Dee for their duet Don't Go Break My Heart. He was then joined on stage by Wham!'s George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley to sing Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. There weren't many female performers at Live Aid, but Alison Moyet was one of them. The singer lent her incredible voice to The Beatles' hit Let It Be, along with The Who's Pete Townshend, David Bowie, Bob Geldof and Paul McCartney. A real goosebumps moment. The historic concert kicked off at midday, with the British Army's official band, The Coldstream Guards, playing a Royal Salute to mark the arrival of the Prince and Princess of Wales to their seats in Wembley Stadium. This was followed by the National Anthem. After the military band had officially opened the show, the first act was Status Quo, famously kicking things off with their own anthem Rockin' All Over The World. Comedy duo Mel Smith and Gryff Rhys Jones, known collectively as Smith and Jones, also helped to introduce Queen. The pair appeared dressed in police uniforms and told the crowd, "We have had a bit of a complaint about the noise... from a woman in Belgium." They went on: "We would like you to bear in mind there are a lot of people in the area, perhaps older people, who aren't quite up to date with modern music. Perhaps Status Quo, for example." We have had a bit of a complaint about the noise... from a woman in BelgiumSmith and Jones The late actor John Hurt — known across generations as the star of The Elephant Man and the Alien films, as well as Mr Ollivander the wand maker in the Harry Potter films — lent his dulcet tones to Live Aid. Hurt did not sing, but introduced Freddie Mercury and Brian May, doing an encore. Influential soul band Sade performed three tracks at Live Aid, coming on ninth in the billing just before Sting and Phil Collins. Following Live Aid, their career really started to take off, with the release of hit single Smooth Operator, and they won Album of the Year at the Brit Awards for their debut album Diamond Life. Sade has gone on the have a long and successful career, and last year was nominated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Prog rock stars Pink Floyd did not appear at Live Aid, Roger Waters had recently left the band, and things were a bit muddy between them. But David Gilmour did perform on stage at the event, playing the guitar for Roxy Music's Bryan Ferry. They performed Slave To Love and John Lennon's Jealous Guy. Pink Floyd eventually reunited for Live 8, a series of benefit concerts in 2005 on the 20th anniversary of Live Aid. Teen pop idol Paul Young had the girls all swooning and screaming when he appeared at Live Aid. He was joined by Alison Moyet for a cover of That's The Way Love Is and closed with his hit single Every Time You Go Away. Rockers Dire Straits were on the line-up, performing their debut hit Sultans of Swing and dueting with Sting on Money For Nothing. After The Jam disbanded and before he became The Modfather, Paul Weller was frontman of The Style Council. And it was as The Style Council that Weller appeared on the billing at Live Aid, with bandmate Mick Talbot. They performed their crowd-pleaser You're The Best Thing. Prince Charming, Adam Ant himself, appeared on stage at the Wembley live show for just one track - Vive Le Rock. Brother Gary and Martin Kemp, and their bandmate Tony Hadley treated the crowd to three songs, finishing with their romantic ballad True. Crooner and acclaimed lyricist Elvis Costello also made a brief appearance and sang The Beatles All You Need Is Love. Everyone remembers Bob Geldof at Live Aid because of his infamous profanities as he shouted for the crowd to donate money to the fundraiser. Geldof came up with the idea for the Band Aid charity Christmas single Do They Know It's Christmas and the subsequent Live Aid concert with his friend Midge Ure. After Geldof's band, Boomtown Rats, sang I Don't Like Mondays, Ure's band, Ultravox, also got a chance to shine, performing four singles, including Vienna. Live Aid: When Rock 'n' Roll Took On the World airs on BBC Two at 9pm on Sunday, 6 July and will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Man's pain ended by ground-breaking Glasgow surgery

Gerry Carrigan, 54, from East Kilbride, had been living with severe back and leg pain for years due to spinal nerve compression caused by a bulging disc. Despite undergoing two spinal disc surgeries, he found little relief and was left reliant on crutches. Gerry and partner, Gemma (Image: Supplied) Gerry became one of the first patients in Scotland to benefit from a pioneering spinal procedure using Mixed Reality (MR) technology, which enabled surgeons to operate with accurate precision through small incisions. He said: "It was amazing that the pain subsided instantly. "The pain completely debilitated what I could do. Magic Leap goggles (Image: Supplied) "Then, following this surgery, I was up and walking in the ward the same night, albeit, still on crutches. "The impact this will make on my life is incredible." The procedure was carried out at INS, which is the first centre in the UK and only the third in the world to use Magic Leap MR technology in spinal surgery. Spinal surgery (Image: Supplied) The system projects detailed spinal images onto the patient's body through MR goggles, allowing surgeons to "see inside" without major incisions. Gerry's minimally invasive surgery involved stabilising the area with screws and rods, removing the damaged disc, and inserting a cage implant to keep the space open and prevent future disc bulges. He was discharged within 24 hours. NHSGGC Regional Awards Innovation of the Year Winners (Image: Supplied) The surgery was performed at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by a team led by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde consultant neurosurgeons and complex spine surgeons Mohamed Abdelsadg and Calan Mathieson. The team recently won the Regional Services Award at the NHSGGC Excellence Awards for their groundbreaking work. Mr Abdelsadg said: "This technology is transforming how we approach complex spinal surgeries. View from inside the MR goggles (Image: Supplied) "It allows us to be more accurate, less invasive, and ultimately deliver better outcomes for our patients." The technology, developed in partnership with Brainlab, is part of a trial using Spine Mixed Reality Navigation, which combines real-time X-rays with external imaging to guide surgeons in 3D. Gerry's leg pain dropped from a nine out of ten to just a two. Spinal surgery - Mo and Calan (Image: Supplied) He said: "We've got a busy household with three autistic boys, so there's really not time for either my wife, Gemma, or myself to be out of action. "Even though I'll likely always have restrictive back pain which still means I'll need the crutches to keep up my mobility outdoors, I'm incredibly grateful to the INS team for giving me a huge part of life back by taking almost all of my leg pain away." The INS team was commended for their "remarkable dedication to advancing patient care by embracing cutting-edge technologies."

Sunday's briefing: Football bids emotional farewell to Diogo Jota

On the field, defending champions England began their Euro 2025 campaign with a 2-1 defeat to France, while Wales were beaten 3-0 by the Netherlands. Chelsea's progress to the semi-finals of the Club World Cup has not all been plain sailing for boss Enzo Maresca. Liverpool's squad were united in their grief as they said farewell to team-mate Diogo Jota at the forward's funeral in Portugal. A service for the 28-year-old father-of-three, who married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso almost a fortnight ago, and his brother Andre Silva was held at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar church in their home town of Gondomar, near Porto, following their deaths in a car crash on Thursday. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson each carried a floral tribute in the shape of a red shirt bearing the respective numbers of the two brothers. Head coach Arne Slot and the majority of the squad were present, as were Michael Edwards – the man who signed Jota from Wolves in 2020 when he was sporting director and is now chief executive of football for owners Fenway Sports Group – current sporting director Richard Hughes and head of physiotherapy Lee Nobes, who would have spent many hours with the player during his injury lay-offs. Many of Jota's former team-mates also attended, including ex-Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who on Friday laid flowers at the makeshift shrine outside Anfield, James Milner, Thiago Alcantara, who signed in the same transfer window as Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher, Fabinho and former Wolves and Portugal team-mate Joao Moutinho. Defending champions England were beaten by France in their Euro 2025 opener in Zurich, despite Keira Walsh's late consolation. Lauren James returned to Sarina Wiegman's starting XI and England thought they had struck first against the 2022 semi-finalists but had an early Alessia Russo effort chalked off after a VAR check. Instead Marie-Antoinette Katoto fired in a 36th-minute opener before Chelsea's Sandy Baltimore doubled France's lead three minutes later. Late substitutions sparked the Lionesses into life in the closing stages and Walsh gave them hope, halving the deficit in the 87th minute, but they could not salvage a point. In the other game in the group, Wales' major tournament debut ended in defeat as Vivianne Miedema scored her 100th international goal for the Netherlands. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has told any player unhappy at the club they can leave. It is proving a busy summer at Stamford Bridge, with recent signings Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr now joined by Jamie Gittens, and Estevao Willian arriving before the new season. Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, Axel Disasi and Ben Chilwell are not with the squad at the Club World Cup and are among those who could move on, while there has also been speculation Noni Madueke, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. Maresca said: 'My message to the players and to the club is that I want just players that are happy to be with us. The ones that are not happy, they are free to go. There is an all-Scandinavian clash at Euro 2025 as Norway take on Finland. In the other game hosts Switzerland face Iceland.
